Wine country from Kelowna to Osoyoos — lake days, orchard stands and Canada’s only desert
The Okanagan is Canada’s wine valley and its best inland beach holiday at the same time. Five days runs the length of it — Kelowna’s wineries, the beaches and channel float at Penticton, the cliffside cellars of Naramata, and the pocket desert around Osoyoos.

Start in Kelowna: the downtown waterfront boardwalk, the beaches along Okanagan Lake, and a first-night hike up Knox Mountain for the view over the lake and the bridge. The wineries begin at the city limits — Mission Hill’s hilltop estate in West Kelowna is the showpiece.
The prettiest stretch of the valley: a narrow road above the lake linking dozens of small cellar doors, with the Kettle Valley Rail Trail running above them for a walk or a bike between tastings.
Penticton sits between two lakes. Spend a morning on the sand at Skaha or Okanagan Beach, and an afternoon drifting the Penticton Channel on a tube — a valley summer tradition.
The hot southern end grows the valley’s biggest reds along the Golden Mile and Black Sage benches around Oliver. Finish at Osoyoos, on the warmest lake in Canada, where the Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre explains the antelope-brush desert and the Syilx people who live in it.
Break the drive north at Summerland for the Kettle Valley Steam Railway and a last run of roadside fruit stands — cherries in July, peaches in August, apples into the fall.
