Vancouver packs an ocean, a rainforest and a skyline into one walkable weekend. Three days is enough to ride the Stanley Park seawall, eat your way through Granville Island and Gastown, and still get up into the North Shore mountains for the view back over the city.

Day 1 — the seawall and the old town

Start where every Vancouver trip should: the Stanley Park seawall. Rent a bike at the Denman Street end and ride the 9 km loop past Coal Harbour, the totem poles at Brockton Point, under the Lions Gate Bridge and around to Second Beach. Afternoon in Gastown for the steam clock and the brick-and-lamppost blocks, then dinner in Yaletown.

Day 2 — market mornings, beach afternoons

Take the little Aquabus across False Creek to the Granville Island Public Market — go hungry. Browse the artisan studios, then walk or ferry over to Kitsilano for the shops on West 4th and a long afternoon at Kits Beach, where the sunset lines up behind the mountains.

Day 3 — into the mountains

Cross to the North Shore for the Capilano Suspension Bridge and its cliffwalk through the rainforest canopy, then the Grouse Mountain gondola for the classic look back down over the city, the harbour and Vancouver Island beyond.
